The Grantham  Log Company is a small family run business supplying firewood in the area for over 15 years.  We are focused on providing high quality dry stored seasoned hardwood logs and kindling.  The timber we supply is all sustainably sourced and felled by our other company Cut N Clear Ltd, which allows us to keep our prices competitive.

Government Legislation

Under the Air Quality (Domestic Solid Fuels Standards) (England) Regulations 2020 that now apply in England, wood fuel sold in volumes under 2m must be certified as Ready to Burn.

What is the aim of legislation

The regulations aim to prevent harmful pollution from domestic burning of all solid fuels by ensuring wood sold in volumes of under 2m cubed is certified as having a moisture content of 20% or less.

What are the exceptions

Customers buying loose wood in quantities of 2m cubed or more must be given advice on how to store and season the fuel, giving them confidence that the wood they are burning is suitably dry before use

Firewood Storage Guide

The Grantham Log Company only sells seasoned naturally barn dried wood.  However  you  may require to store your wood an extended period of time therefore government guidelines now require that all loads of 2 cubic metres or more come with the following notice:

“You should not burn wood until it has a moisture content of 20% or less,”

We advise that you check your wood using a moisture metre before burning.

How to store your firewood

Should your firewood be above 20% moisture content it will need to be stored correctly in order for it to dry out; this is known as seasoning.

Remember to bring your logs inside at least a day in advance. Keep them in a dry area of your home and they’ll be good to burn the next day

Indoor Storage

  • Do not place logs near to heat source that may cause them to ignite
  • Do not stack wood next to your stove, as there is a risk it may ignite.

Outdoor Storage

  • Protect from direct rain and the elements
  • Keep wood off the ground
  • Allow air to circulate
  • Properly stacked wood will last longer
  • Improperly stored wood could lead to wet, unseasoned firewood that’s prone to decay.
